Information Systems & GIS

To provide excellent customer service and support to all Summit County Government information technology users. To protect Summit County Government assets and data, and to ensure Summit County Government’s technology investment is strategically positioned for the future.


The Information Systems Department is comprised of four functional areas.

Service Delivery

Manage the county’s computer systems, network, and telephones. This includes operations, system analysis and design, hardware and software acquisition and installation, problem diagnosis, and long-range planning.

Service Support

Provide services and support to system users, including a user support service desk line during working hours operations.

Application Development

Application Development is responsible for developing and maintaining computer application software to support internal day-to-day county operations (primarily in the assessor’s, clerk and recorder, and treasurer’s offices), and developing public-facing applications for the county’s website that provide citizens access to information used by the county.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is responsible for developing and maintaining geospatial data, for assisting other county departments with maps and geospatial data analysis to support their operations, and for assigning unique addresses throughout the county.

Information Technology (IT) Governance Committee

In 2004, Summit County implemented an Information Technology (IT) Governance Committee to address countywide policy and standardization issues, to prioritize emergency and unplanned projects, and to approve Information Systems' work programs in alignment with and support of county operations. This process successfully ensures that services and systems are aligned with the entire enterprise; ensures consistency, compatibility, interoperability, security, and maintainability; and manages IT staffing and monetary resources.
