On the afternoon of Monday, May 1, 2017 at approximately 3 p.m. the Summit County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip from Safe2Tell Colorado referencing a threat to be carried out this week at Summit Middle School.

SUMMIT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES Safe2Tell TIP


SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On the afternoon of Monday, May 1, 2017 at approximately 3 p.m. the Summit County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip from Safe2Tell Colorado referencing a threat to be carried out this week at Summit Middle School. The Sheriff’s Office and Summit County School District began immediately investigating which led to the discovery that this tip was circulating throughout several school districts within the state.


Our investigation has determined that the threat has no direct relationship to Summit County or the Summit County School District. The origin of this threat is actively being investigated by a jurisdiction outside of Summit County in Colorado. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to maintain a heightened presence at school facilities and activities.


Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons reminds the public, “The Sheriff’s Office takes the safety of the school population and staff very seriously. We will continue to actively investigate all criminal activity and threats in order to keep our school community safe and secure. This situation highlights the importance of always reporting any concerns promptly to parents, school officials, law enforcement or Safe2Tell Colorado.”
