[ARCHIVED] Rescue of the Labradoodle Windel

Rescue of the Labradoodle Windel

On February 6, 2017 a twelve-year-old Labradoodle named “Windel” went missing from his home in Silverthorne.

SUMMIT COUNTY, CO – On February 6, 2017 a twelve-year-old Labradoodle named “Windel” went missing from his home in Silverthorne.  Two days later the Summit County Animal Shelter received a call from the public that a dog was trapped down a steep ravine in the Mesa Cortina subdivision.  The caller’s dog had been barking in the direction of the trapped dog, which had alerted the owner. Animal Control responded and determined the trapped dog was Windel. He was curled up, freezing and unable to move at the bottom of a ravine filled with deep snow.

Animal Control carefully used a stretcher and climbing rope attached to three trees to pull Windel to safety.  He was then taken to a nearby vet where the owner’s daughter claimed him.  Windel was cold and hungry, however only suffered a minor scrape on his head.  At first, he had trouble standing, but was able to make a full recovery after warming up and getting rest.  Windel is happy to be back in the arms of his loving owner.  Thanks to the quick response of all the neighbors and Animal Control’s tools, Windel’s rescue was a heartwarming success and happy reunion!
