The investigation into the shooting of a suspect in a vehicle theft continued throughout the day on Monday, December 26, 2016.

The investigation into the shooting of a suspect in a vehicle theft continued throughout the day on Monday, December 26, 2016. The agencies involved in the joint investigation are the Summit County Sheriff, Breckenridge and Frisco Police Departments, and Colorado Bureau of Investigation. The investigation is being reviewed by the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. District Attorney Bruce Brown issued a cautionary statement, "All persons mentioned or connected with any alleged crime are presumed innocent until the contrary is proven in a court of law."


About 1:35 p.m. today an arrest warrant was issued by the Summit County Court charging Nathaniel Steven Leisz, a 33 year old male, bond set at $50,000.00, with;

First Degree Assault, a class 3 Felony

Menacing, a class 5 Felony

Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, a class 4 Felony

First Degree Criminal Trespass (Automobile), a class 5 Felony

Obstructing a Peace Officer, a class 2 Misdemeanor

Resisting Arrest, a class 2 Misdemeanor


Mr. Leisz had been transported from the scene by ambulance to the St. Anthony Summit Medical Center for stabilization and then transported to St. Anthony Central in Lakewood, Colorado.


Summit County Sheriff’s Deputies are guarding Mr. Leisz who has been arrested on the charges listed above. Mr. Leisz will remain admitted in the hospital until released and at that time he will be transferred to the Summit County Detentions Facility in Breckenridge.


This continues to be an active investigation and as such no others details are available for release right now. There are no outstanding suspects and the public is not in any danger. There is no booking photo available and the arrest warrant affidavit has been temporarily sealed. Further details of the investigation will be released as the investigation concludes and they become available.
