[ARCHIVED] Phase 3 Construction to Begin in July

The original item was published from June 30, 2017 2:40 PM to June 30, 2017 2:42 PM

We're excited to announce that construction of Phase 3 of the Summit Cove Loop Project will begin in July. Summit County has contracted with Columbine Hills Concrete to complete this summer's work, which is focused on the school zone. The contractor will use the Summit Cove Elementary School parking lot as a staging area for construction activities. The school will remain open for its summer activities and uses.

Crews will begin moving equipment into the staging area on July 5, with site preparation to follow during the week of July 10.

2017 Work Plan Summary
Work this summer will take place along Cove Boulevard, from Whispering Pines Ranch Road to Grey Fox Lane. The project improvements include sidewalk installation along the east side of Cove Boulevard (along school property), striping 10-foot-wide drive lanes, constructing bicycle/pedestrian lanes on both sides of Cove Boulevard and adding a new student drop-off/pick-up zone that will improve vehicle traffic flow and eliminate the need for children to enter traffic in the parking lot.

We anticipate that construction will take place from early July through late August.

Project Goals
As with other sections of the Summit Cove Loop, we’ve designed the school-zone improvements to support the following goals:
  • Reduce vehicle speeds
  • Reduce conflicts among the various modes of travel (motor vehicle, bike/pedestrian)
  • Provide clearly defined, safe and accessible routes for biking and walking.
