[ARCHIVED] Summit County power outages

The original item was published from February 8, 2019 11:59 AM to March 7, 2019 11:33 AM

Xcel Energy has detected a loss of pressure with a natural gas line serving customers in Summit County that is impacting service to customers. Xcel has not detected any gas leaks, as of 12 noon, Friday. At this time, crews are working to isolate the pressure issue so that service can return to normal levels. To keep sufficient pressure in the system, Xcel is implementing controlled electric outages in Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Keystone and Dillon.

The electric outages prevent gas furnaces from operating and provide some relief on the gas system. The outages may be repeated throughout the day. Customers impacted by this event will be contacted directly. Xcel will provide updates regarding the duration of these actions as its crews work to address the issue. Xcel Energy natural gas workers are working safely and quickly to resolve the situation.

Safety is the highest priority. While this should not impact your safety, if you detect a sulfur or “rotten egg” smell inside your home, it could be the odorant put in natural gas to help detect leaks. If you notice that smell, leave your home immediately. Do not turn any electrical devices on or off and never use any phone until you are outside and safely away from the area. Then call Xcel at 1-800-895-2999. You may also call this line if you need gas-powered appliances to be relighted. If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1.

If you are planning travel to the Breckenridge, Silverthorne, Keystone or Dillon areas, please plan ahead and consider calling ahead to your destination to determine if it’s open for business. For updated information, visit https://www.xcelenergy.com/outages_and_emergencies.
