Short Term Rentals Blog

Summit County is implementing regulations for short term rentals (STRs), which are applicable to properties in the unincorporated areas of Summit County. The STR regulations address:
  • - Permitting and fees
  • - Regulation of key neighborhood impacts (e.g., parking and trash)
  • - Regulation of life safety issues (e.g., smoke and carbon monoxide detectors)
  • - An effective compliance-monitoring and enforcement system.
This blog will keep you abreast of relevant processes, policies, information and other matters related to our STR program.

STR Process Update: July 10 work session discussion postponed

Posted on July 9, 2018 at 7:00 PM by Julie Sutor

Please note that the short-term-rental (STR) policy discussion with the Summit County Board of County Commissioners has been postponed from its originally scheduled date of Tuesday, July 10.

Over the past two months, the Summit County Planning Department has collected a large body of research and community input on regulations related to STRs. We received hundreds of responses to our STR online community survey; we have gathered examples of successful policies and programs in other mountain resort communities; and we have been collaborating with local municipalities to identify opportunities for policy consistency across Summit County.

We are somewhat behind our original timeline, but we continue to make progress on this project, and we will be sure to keep everyone posted on next steps and new developments as they become available.
