[ARCHIVED] Food safety and disposal information

The original item was published from June 14, 2018 3:44 PM to February 8, 2019 1:05 PM

Below is information about Food Safety & Disposal for those affected by the #BuffaloFire.

Residents affected by the Buffalo Fire have been encouraged to dispose of foods that may have become too warm during the loss of power or may have become contaminated with smoke.

Dumpsters for solid food waste will be available at the Buffalo Cabin/Lily Pad Lakes trailhead and at the Salt Lick trailhead. The Buffalo Cabin/Lily Pad Lakes trailhead is located at the very top of Ryan Gulch Road. The Salt Lick trailhead is located at the first corner at the bottom of Ryan Gulch Road near the Wilderness Gas and Grocery.

These dumpsters will be available for use until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, and again tomorrow, Friday, June 15, from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Dumpsters will not be available overnight due to wildlife concerns.

Residents are urged to use these Dumpsters for disposing of food waste rather than using their routine trash hauling service to avoid problems with food waste attracting wildlife. The large temporary Dumpsters will be emptied every evening to avoid this. Liquid waste should generally be disposed of down your regular drains and toilets rather than into the Dumpsters.

For more information, contact our Buffalo Fire Hotline between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. at 970-668-9730.
