Current Situation: Firefighters are looking to take advantage of a third day of favorable weather to further efforts on containment of the Peak 2 fire. The weather is largely expected to continue with overcast skies, cooler temperatures, and relatively calm winds. Forecasts show a small chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, which may lead to erratic winds and lightning.

Crews will continue building and strengthening containment line on the southeast and northwest flanks of the fire today. While line has been constructed around about 70% of the fire, incident managers are hesitant to call that area “contained” because of the steep nature of the terrain and the risk of that line being breached by the significant amount of dead-and-down trees in the fire zone. Minimizing risks to firefighters in the fire area and providing for their safety will again be a top priority as they work to provide mitigation of risk for the community in the future.

Two structure protection groups will continue to work in and around the Peak 7, Red Tail Ranch, Gold Hill, and south Frisco areas. These groups of engines will also provide initial attack for any new fires that emerge in the area. These engines will be supported by two helicopters.
Over the past two days, crews have scouted contingency lines to the north and south of the current fire area. Incident managers will be coordinating with local agencies over the course of the day on possible construction of those lines, which would provide an additional level of protection if this fire or future fires were to move south towards Breckenridge and the Peak 7 neighborhood.

Evacuations and Closures: The Peak 7 neighborhood evacuation was lifted at 8 p.m. Friday evening. Areas west of Colorado State Route 9 from Cucumber Gulch and Valley Brook north to the Iron Springs construction site remain on a pre-evacuation notice. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant to stay aware of the fire status through fire information sources and the media. Please call the public information line at (970) 668-9730 with questions.

Peaks Trail, Gold Hill, Wheeler, Miners Creek trails remain closed. Parts of the Colorado Trail are closed where overlap occurs with trail closures in the area. Miners Creek Road is closed.
Public Safety: Motorists are asked to not stop along Colorado State Route 9 as congestion and stopped vehicles are proving hazardous for both travelers and responders.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect for the entire White River National Forest as well as Bureau of Land Management-administered lands and unincorporated private lands in Eagle, Garfield, Mesa, Rio Blanco, Pitkin, and Summit counties.
