Trainings and Events for Summit Youth & Families


Fall 2023:

Nurturing Parenting Classes will be offered for families with children ages 12-18.  There will be 6 classes focused on developing positive parenting skills, learning about brain development, nurturing family settings and opportunities to practices skills.  Both parents and children participate in classes.  Classes will take place in English and Spanish at the Summit Senior & Community Center, 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, October 5, 12, 19, 26 and November 9 & 16.  Registration is $10 for all classes (scholarships are available).  Dinner and childcare provided.  To register contact Cary at cary.brown@summitcountyco.gov or 970-668-9181.  For Spanish, contact Jenniffer at jenniffer.gonzalez@summitcountyco.gov or 970-668-9185.

 

Healthy Choices is a relationship and sexual health class for middle school youth. Youth & Family staff deliver the 12 week curriculum at Summit Middle School to 7th grade youth who sign up.  For more information email melody.parker@summitcountyco.gov.

 

The Drop Teen Center will be open for teens (middle and high school age youth) after school Monday-Thursday until 5:30 during the school year. The Drop is located in Frisco at 37 Peak One Drive in the County Commons below the Main Branch Library.  For more information email mentors@summitcountyco.gov


Ongoing:

Strengthening Families Outreach Program is a free, home visitation program for local families with children birth-17.  A parent educator will make a home visit once a week for four months to provide parenting education, resources and help address parenting concerns. Mondays:

Summit County Playgroup is open to all parents/caregivers and children (birth-3 years) on Mondays, 10-11:30 am. Playgroup meets at The Drop Teen Center.  The Drop is located in Frisco at 37 Peak One Drive in the Count Commons below the Main Branch Library.  For more information email laura.cronin@summitcountyco.gov.

  • Askable Adult:  a one hour training for adults about having difficult conversations with youth
  • Positive Youth Development a three hour training for adults about how best to support youth in their lives
  • Mental Health First Aid for Youth a six hour training for adults about how to support youth mental health
