Support Services Division
The Support Services Division, supervised by Commander Tom Whelan, includes Criminal Investigations, Special Operations (Search and Rescue / Water Rescue), Records Management, Concealed Handgun Permits, Civil and S.M.A.R.T. (Systemwide Mental Assessment Response Team).
Civil Section
Pursuant to state statute, the Civil Section provides services such as Service of Process, Evictions / Writs of Restitution and Decree of Foreclosure / Writ of Execution / Sheriff’s Sales. Records Management

Criminal Investigations Section

The Summit County Sheriff's Office has established the System-wide Mental Assessment Response Team (SMART) program. The goal of the program is to de-escalate situations that have historically resulted in arrest or hospitalization and to assess whether the person should be referred for local treatment services or a higher level of care. Both the SMART and STARR programs of the Summit County Sheriff's Office are tied together through a shared community based steering committee and shareholder group.
