Clerk & Recorder

We are not  the Clerk of Courts

Our office is frequently thought to be the same office as the Clerk of Courts.  The Clerk of Courts is a state office located at the Justice Center at 501 North Park Avenue in Breckenridge.  Contact their office regarding legal matters such as court dates, jury duty, divorce, appointments for a Civil marriage ceremony performed by a Judge, etc.  Contact the Courts by heading to their website or calling (970) 453-2272 for County Court, (970) 453-2241 for District Court.

We do not Issue IDs or Driver Licenses

The Clerk & Recorder does not manage Driver Licenses, State-Issued IDs, Motor Vehicle Driving Records or Driving Test Appointments.  Those services are provided locally by the Colorado Driver License Office in Frisco.  Call their office at (970) 668-5015 or (303) 205-5600.

Do I Need a Business License?

Since the passing of HB 15-1028 repealed the requirement for Colorado businesses located in unincorporated areas to obtain a business license approved by the County Commissioners, our office does not administer a County Business License program at this time.  This does not affect Liquor Licensing requirements, and does not impact town/municipal business licenses.  If your business operates within an incorporated town in Summit County, contact that town's Clerk's Office directly for information about municipal business license requirements.  For more information about starting a business in Colorado, refer to the Colorado Secretary of State's website.
